| Murulpayi is the name of some of Fred's
country, which is far to the south east of Balgo, near a series
of large salt lakes. Murulpayi takes its name from a series
of tjurrnu, or soakwaters, all shown here. Between some of
these tjurrnu are some warran, or claypans. This was the country
where Fred lived and hunted as a young man with his family.
This is also the ancestral country of Kurtal, a snake/man
character who brought wind and rain wherever he travelled.
Kurtal caused big storms and winds and would raid peoples'
camps during these storms. |
