Description

Bai Bai has painted a food story for some of her traditional country, south of Balgo, in The Great Sandy Desert. The country here is called Mintirr, and is a section of steep, rocky country, separating tali, or sand dune country to the south and the plains country to the north. The cliffs are shown near the centre of the painting. It is around these cliffs that witjilki is found, a seed that grows on a tree that falls off when ripe. The seeds are collected in coolamons and then ground up flour to make damper.
