| Ningie has painted her mother's and
father's country which lies a long way to the south in the
Great Sandy Desert, Turlalpa. This is country with a series
of soakwaters, creeks and lakes. The soakwater to the bottom
right is Wataparrni and Pinarri is top of the painting. Ningie
and her family travelled all through this country without
any billy cans . They used a small round wooden scoop called
a Munma to collect water. The water was carried in a coolamon
called a Tjarldapa. Ningie also explains all the different
types of seed collected in this region which was ground up
to make damper. These included lukarrara, idugudjiand kilkirrdi.
She also mentions a yellow seed called kulpari which is very
salty but was still eaten after being washed. |
